When shopping for CBD online, you may have typed in “CBD oil” on Google and found that there are a huge amount of listings for CBD oil on Amazon.

Increasing popularity has landed CBD products on the shelves of major retailers like Kroger, CVS, and Barney’s New York. However, it’s surprising to find that “CBD” or should we say “Fake CBD Products” are being sold on Amazon, given its strict regulations and Amazon consistently denying you can purchase CBD on its platform.

We decided to research this further as something was not adding up.  As an Amazon Prime member myself, I love the pleasant idea of shopping for CBD on Amazon, then getting my shipment of CBD just two days later for free.  We can all admit it: Amazon is fast, cheap, and efficient.

So was this all some sort of a hoax, or was I wrong and could you actually buy CBD Oil on Amazon?

Is there really CBD Oil on Amazon?

Eager to get to the truth, we searched “CBD Oil” in Amazon’s search tab and were surprised to find several search results for Amazon categories with titles like “Pure CBD Oils,” “CBD Oil” and “Organic CBD Oil.” Click Here to see the search results of CBD Oil on Amazon.

Maybe CBD was actually being sold on Amazon…WRONG!

After a quick phone call with an amazon rep, we confirmed that CBD oil (cannabidiol oil) or Hemp Extract is in fact, NOT allowed to be sold on Amazon.

The Problem with CBD Oil on Amazon

While there are a few products from established CBD brands here and there on Amazon, a majority of the CBD products appear to be very generic and can’t be found for purchase anywhere but Amazon.

Even more strange was that a majority of the CBD oil on Amazon were labeled with very high MG concentrations such as 10,000mg all the way up to 65,000mg, but were priced much cheaper than typical 500-1500mg CBD products.

Here’s a screenshot of a product on Amazon that claims to have “65,000mg,” but is being sold for just $18.99.

If you think that’s too good to be true… it is!

The Truth About CBD Oil on Amazon

While CBD derived from hemp, was federally legalized last year under the Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018, the FDA has not yet established clear regulations for CBD. Because of this, Amazon and many other e-commerce platforms are maintaining their existing policies until further clarification from the FDA.

To get around this complication, some brands will label their products as “Hemp Oil” rather than “CBD Oil.” Despite the obvious issues presented by this improper use of words, it is a rather common practice in the industry and most customers have become accustomed to it.  Hemp Oil contains NO cannabinoids or cannabidiol (CBD).  Hemp Oil is no different than Avocado Oil or Coconut Oil.  It is just a fat you can use for cooking.

In this case, however, many vendors are using this loophole to exploit the industry’s lack of regulatory structure and trick those shopping for CBD on Amazon.

While the CBD products on Amazon may appear very similar to actual CBD products, they are actually nothing more than Hemp Oil or Hemp Seed Oil and don’t contain any CBD at all.

How to Avoid CBD Oil Scams on Amazon

Unfortunately, the huge amount of these CBD oil scams on Amazon has created an unsafe shopping environment for new CBD users.

You should avoid buying CBD oil on Amazon, at least for now, until they release an official statement on selling quality, lab-tested CBD oil.

Don’t buy unless you can see a product’s lab results!  This holds true for any “CBD” product.  If there is no easily accessible lab results showing the Cannabinoid content of the product, then steer clear of it!  TerraVita CBD lists all of our lab results on our website, here.  We also have easily scannable QR codes on our product labels and boxes.  TRANSPARENCY = QUALITY in the CBD industry!

Amazon is a great marketplace platform where you can score some great deals; but for now, CBD is not one of those deals.

In the near future, Amazon will likely take the proper action to address this problem, but until then, we’ll have to survive without the convenience of Amazon Prime when shopping for CBD online.  Brands such as TerraVita CBD are making FREE shipping easily accessible to consumers in the meantime.  TerraVita CBD offers Free Shipping on all orders in the USA, Free 2-day Shipping on orders $150 and over, and Free 1-day Shipping on orders $300 and over.
